Contributor Guidelines

Nurse Approved works with contributors to produce original, expert-driven healthcare journalism. All submissions are reviewed in accordance with our Editorial Standards and published at the discretion of our editorial team.

How to Pitch

Nurse Approved reviews article ideas by pitch only. Please do not submit a completed article unless invited or your pitch has been approved.

Please include:

  • A brief summary of the proposed article (2–3 paragraphs)
  • Why the topic is timely or relevant
  • Relevant expertise, credentials, or experience
  • Links to prior published work (if available)

Our editorial team will follow up if the pitch is a good fit.

What We Publish

We accept original, well-reported content related to healthcare, medicine, nursing, and public health, including:

  • Healthcare and medical news analysis
  • Clinical insights and specialty perspectives
  • Medical research explainers and evidence summaries
  • Public health, policy, and workforce issues
  • Professional development and leadership
  • Ethics, health equity, and innovation
  • Wellness and lifestyle content grounded in evidence

Content should be accurate, informative, and relevant to healthcare professionals and informed audiences.

Writing Style & Format

To ensure clarity and consistency:

  • Use clear, professional, plain-language writing
  • Keep paragraphs concise (2–4 sentences)
  • Use descriptive headings and subheadings
  • Accurately explain medical or scientific concepts
  • Support claims with reputable sources and links
  • Follow AP Stylebook standards

Typical length is 500–1,200 words, though longer pieces may be considered when warranted.

Sources, Credentials & Attribution

  • Cite peer-reviewed research, reputable organizations, or official data when applicable
  • Include professional credentials on first reference to experts
  • Identify locations when referencing institutions or organizations

Images & Multimedia

Visuals are welcome when they enhance understanding or storytelling. Any submitted images or multimedia must be:

  • Owned by the contributor or used with documented permission
  • Properly licensed or in the public domain
  • Accompanied by appropriate attribution

Nurse Approved reserves the right to select, edit, replace, or decline visuals.

Submitting a Completed Article (By Invitation Only)

If a pitch is approved, contributors will receive submission instructions. Invited submissions typically include:

  • Final article (Word document or Google Doc)
  • Short author bio (up to 60 words)
  • Headshot
  • One optional website link
  • Optional social media links

Ownership & Republishing

By submitting content, contributors confirm the work is original and that they hold the necessary rights.

Upon publication, contributors grant Nurse Approved a non-exclusive right to edit, publish, distribute, and archive the content across Nurse Approved platforms as part of our editorial library.

Contributors are encouraged to republish and share their work after publication. Including a canonical link or attribution to the original Nurse Approved article helps maintain proper credit and context.
